Happy Summer! Enjoying retirement! Playing disc golf whenever the weather cooperates. Playing at our local folk/old time jam every Sunday afternoon. Staying up late, sleeping late. Studying with Hilldale College online courses, preparing Bible lessons for Sunday classes. Practicing folk harp, hammered dulcimer etc. Played outdoors with my daughter at our local farmer's market a few weeks ago. Enjoying life with my beautiful wife. Some people keep me busy in the whistle shop!!! All the best! James
Hi Friends! Enjoying life here in Missouri! It has been quite hot here this summer. I am a disc golf player, so it has been a wait for a cool morning or day to head for the park for some exercise. My whistle shop is in the lower level where it is always cool, so that is nice. I have been taking some online courses from Hillsdale College while I work on whistles. Constitution 101, CS Lewis, Winston Churchill, Theology 101 etc. Fun to keep the brain learning! Been playing whistles and hammered dulcimer and fiddle and bass and guitar at our local jam on Sunday afternoons. Got a nice forgiving group of players here who are a blast to play with. Here's hoping you are well and playing up a storm! James
Hi Whistlers! We are doing fine here in Missouri. The Whistle shop is doing fine, but on a break til the new year. I have made a few new shop jigs and lighting improvements in the last few months. I got some input from a few customers that encouraged me to upgrade a few things. I have been tuning pianos all over the area, giving guitar and piano lessons to some great students, playing at our local folk jam on Sunday afternoon, and leading worship on Sunday mornings. I did make and sell 28 plucked psalterys this Christmas season, and that was fun. I have written about 150 song sheets that slide under the strings and allow a connect-the-dot playing method.
In this new day of hope and optimism, I wish you the time and energy to go after those dreams and ideas that have been percolating in your mind. Tomorrow is a new day, full of opportunities. Have fun! Hey there whistlers.......Blessing to you from mid-Missouri! We are doing well here. Daughter got married in October, celebrated my 40th wedding anniversary with my lovely wife in November, made 25 plucked psalterys, and made a bunch of whistles, of course.
There seems to be a large number of alto and low whistle orders recently----I guess my pricing has quite a lot to do with that. I stay so busy with guitar and piano lessons, piano tuning, church music, etc.....that it seems I am always behind. I do apologize if your whistles take a few weeks to be made and shipped, but there is only me and only so many hours in a day..... We did get to spend a few days in Branson, MO---if you don't know about Branson---it is a mini Las Vegas---without the casinos----lake, river, shopping, 100s of hotels, and dozens of music/.dancing/ magic/acrobats/dancer show theatres------we saw a great Christmas show---the Lennon Sisters and the Osmond Brothers---and they were great----they also had a great magician and a Britain has talent singer---Charlie Green performing. Watch him on youtube....smooth. Hope you are well and happy this time of year---and remember that it is Jesus birthday that is of primary importance this time of year. Hi there whistlers.....I hope you are doing well and playing lots of music. I have 24 whistles on my bench currently. They are at the mark and drill fingerhole stage. That puts them about 50% done at this point. Then comes the cleaning up of sharp edges and burrs, undercutting the fingerholes, and smoothing and polishing.......packing and shipping, of course.
It has been a nice spring here in Missouri. Temperatures have been in the 60-80 range for several weeks and the grass and plants are taking off. I am a sempervivem grower/fancier. In laymen's terms, that is "hens and chicks"----or for you friends in the UK, houseleeks. I have 10-15 varieties in about 70 ceramic or plastic pots, and spring is the most fun time......when the hens shoot out a circle of small offspring plants---the chicks. My mom is having her 92nd birthday on Sunday and she is doing well. My sister from Oklahoma is coming for a visit this week. We will be singing a duet at church on Sunday---for Mom. I have taken up disc golf for fun and exercise. Went out tonight after supper for a round----it was beautiful....peaceful, quiet. Shot 2 over par.....but no out of bounds shots....so that's good. Hey, that's all for tonight. Pleasant dreams....or sunny days to you all! James |
