Here Billy Xiong is playing a Becker whistle on the video. Thanks Billy! Very nice!
Irish-style penny whistles have been standard instruments since the middle 1800s when the use of tin sheet metal developed and whistles were made. They are the common man's answer to the recorder. The whistle only has 6 sound holes, but plays 2 octaves. My whistles are made of cpvc or pvc pipe. The fipple blocks are acetal rod (plastic polymer). I use curved, narrowing windways to take advantage of the Bernoulli effect---causing an easy blow of air to accelerate as it is compressed in the narrowing windway. Thousands of Becker whistles are being played around the globe! A HANDMADE whistle for such a price!
Whistles are a folk instrument---an instrument of the people, the common man. They are not orchestral perfection....they will change pitch with the change of blowing strength---up to 30 cents. I have tuned them with care and they will sound fine with other instruments. I play my own whistles all the time with the folk jam and church band and they work great.
All whistles have a delrin fipple block!
Here are a few letters from customers------
The low D whistle you made me arrived today. Given how remotely my wife and I live, I expected it to take a few days longer to find me. Most mail does. That said, it's unbelievable that a low whistle costing only $25 could sound this good. Honestly, I've owned low D whistles that cost 10 times as much that didn't sound as good. You have the sound figured out! Also, likely because of the bore diameter to length ratio, the back pressure is perfect too. I've been playing it since the mail arrived almost 3 hours ago. Needless to say, given it's virtually maintenance free, I'll take it with me anytime I go out of town. When we hike, it'll be in my pack. So, thanks for such a great instrument at an unbelievably low cost. Thanks too for the very quick turn around!--------J J 2021
Too bad I didn’t know about your whistles first…you would have saved me a ton of money! I recommend these whistles because they sound so good and they’re cheap! I will buy more! Keep up the good work! John 1/1/18
"Hi James,Just wanted to let you know that I received my Low D whistle yesterday.
What a great sounding and great looking instrument--this whistle would literally be a bargain at twice the price. Thanks so much for making such high quality, affordable musical instruments.
All the best, J" March 12, 2015
..............your whistle arrived today and it was ice cold(from the mailbox) but I put it under my coat and warmed it up and it sounds great--- it changes scales easily without any whistles are or squeaks and it is a nice clean tone to it. I have two other whistles that are ABS plastic that I used to consider my best whistles and now I think yours has beat them out as my new favorite number one.
I want to thank you very much for the quick transaction at a very reasonable price. TS January 2019
