I taught recorder and other pre-band instruments for years---many years. The whistle would have been great for that! Easy to blow and finger, fewer annoying squeaks, and a beautiful sound. The tablature below is actually a font that I found from a place called "Whistle and squeak"----when you type a D, you get the fingering for a D note. Whole songs can be written in a flash. Mary had a little lamb is----fedefff eee faa fedeffffeefed and out comes tabs for the whole song. The fingering is the same for all of my whistles---no learning different fingering for different keys--they are all alike! So, get yourself a whistle and make a joyful sound!
